Abastos Wholesale To Expand Louisville Operation With $10.3M Investment
Gov. Andy Beshear announced that Abastos Wholesale, a distributor and supply chain partner delivering fresh goods to markets in multiple states, will expand its Louisville operation with a $10.3 million investment, according to a statement from the governor's office.
The expansion will create 20 new jobs for the Louisville area. Abastos Wholesale, operated by Ruiz and Family LLC, specializes in fresh produce, Latin American products and bulk food items from distributors across the United States and Mexico.
The announcement comes as part of Beshear's ongoing economic development efforts in Kentucky. Since the beginning of his administration, Beshear has announced more than 1,300 private-sector new-location and expansion projects totaling over $45 billion in announced investments, creating more than 68,000 jobs. The state has now secured more than $50 billion in investments and created more than 70,000 new jobs, according to recent announcements.
Abastos Wholesale currently operates a location on Preston Highway in Louisville, where it serves retailers and food service businesses with wholesale grocery products. The company has become certified as Kentucky Proud, reflecting its commitment to sourcing products from the state.
The Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development notes that investment in site and building development throughout Kentucky builds on the best six-year period for economic growth in state history. The Abastos expansion represents the type of supply chain and food distribution infrastructure that supports Kentucky's growing economy.
