HAZARD, Ky. — The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky has launched #GiveAppKY, a regional campaign to boost charitable giving and strengthen support for nonprofits serving Eastern Kentucky communities ahead of GivingTuesday on December 1.

Registration for the campaign is open through September 30, according to The Lane Report. Nonprofit organizations must be located in and serve at least one Appalachian Kentucky county to participate.

GivingTuesday, held annually on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, encourages people to support charitable causes through donations, volunteer work and other forms of giving. Last year, the movement generated approximately $4 billion for U.S. nonprofits.

"It's time to bring the power of GivingTuesday to our region, not only to strengthen our nonprofit organizations and support the families and communities they serve, but also to prove what we already know: that we're one of the most generous regions in the country," said Brenna Wallhausser, chief philanthropy officer at the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky.

Participating organizations will receive a campaign toolkit and be featured on the #GiveAppKY online "Giving Menu," allowing donors to browse participating nonprofits and donation opportunities. Nonprofits that actively participate will receive an equal share of the Foundation's "Spread the Love" fund, with potential additional financial support from campaign sponsors.
