Art by Nature exhibit on stormwater opens Friday in Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The ninth annual Art by Nature show, titled From Concrete to Creek, opens with a gallery reception Friday, Oct. 16, at the Living Arts and Science Center, according to a Lexington city government announcement. The exhibit will remain on display through Dec. 12.
This year's exhibition focuses on how the city manages stormwater in urban areas. The city's announcement poses the question "Where does water go after it rains?" The works draw inspiration from infrastructure projects that slow rainwater, filter pollutants and add beauty and greenery to the community. Painting, photography, poetry and sculpture are among the mediums represented.
The public is invited to the opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Living Arts and Science Center, 362 North Martin Luther King Blvd. Attendees can enjoy refreshments and meet some of the local artists who created the nearly 100 pieces on display, learning what inspired their work.
Admission to the gallery is free during Art by Nature events. Many of the pieces are available for purchase. The city's announcement also lists additional events, though details were not included in the material provided.
Visitors who want to see the projects behind the exhibit can use the Art by Nature inspiration map, which is maintained through the city's Live Green Lexington program under Environmental Quality and Public Works.
