Ask Lex: Major Road Projects Planned For Lexington
I've been noticing all this construction and survey work happening on roads around town lately. I mean, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is already doing work on U.S. Twenty-five nearby, and I'm wondering if anyone knows whether there are any major projects planned for New Circle Road or Man o' War Boulevard?
You're absolutely picking up on something real. There's a whole lot happening right now. New Circle Road alone has nineteen different projects funded in the state budget, totaling nearly one hundred fifty-five million dollars, and there's a four point seven million dollar project specifically for New Circle between Boardwalk and Bryan Station Road. That's just one piece of it.
Wow, that's serious money. What about the bigger picture stuff we're seeing?
The big one is called Driving Lexington Progress, which is a one hundred seventy million dollar effort that includes Interstate seventy-five slash sixty-four, New Circle Road, and Leestown Road and Newtown Pike. When it's all done in twenty twenty-seven, it's supposed to improve safety and travel times. Right now they're widening New Circle from four to six lanes between Versailles Road and Georgetown Road, including that new crossover diamond interchange on Leestown Road.
And Man o' War? I feel like I see crews out there all the time.
Man o' War's getting thirteen million dollars in improvements, mainly those new restricted crossing U-turns along Richmond Road south of Man o' War. Those RCUTs are designed to reduce crashes and keep traffic moving better. The whole thing is part of the state trying to handle all the growth we've been seeing on the south side of town.
No wonder traffic feels different lately. Sounds like it's going to be worth it once they're finished.
That's the hope. Between all the New Circle work wrapping up next year and these Richmond Road improvements, we should see some real relief. Just got to get through the construction phase first.
