LEXINGTON, Ky. — Bluegrass Community and Technical College announced continued financial support from the NiSource Charitable Foundation, reinforcing a longstanding partnership focused on student success and workforce development in Central Kentucky.

BCTC, a public community college serving the region with seven campuses, will receive $5,000 for student scholarships and a $15,000 gift to support the BCTC Foundation Workforce Transition Fund. The contributions address critical needs for students seeking to enter high-demand careers, particularly in the skilled trades.

"Their generous support not only provides critical financial assistance through scholarships, but also strengthens our Workforce Transition Fund empowering students to gain the skills and training necessary to succeed in today's evolving workforce," said Dr. Greg Feeney, BCTC President and CEO.

The Workforce Transition Fund supports students as they navigate career changes, offering resources that help them transition into in-demand fields, including the skilled trades. The funding aligns with BCTC's mission to provide accessible education aligned with workforce needs across Central Kentucky.

Columbia Gas of Kentucky, a NiSource subsidiary, has been a consistent partner with BCTC for several years. In 2023, the company awarded scholarships to students in high-demand fields, including HVAC Technology and Welding. The NiSource Charitable Foundation prioritizes STEAM education and economic development through education and training in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.

"As a natural gas company, training and safety are non-negotiable essentials," said Kimra Cole, President and Chief Operating Officer of Columbia Gas of Kentucky and trustee of the NiSource Charitable Foundation. "Through our partnership with BCTC, we're helping provide students with the tools, protection, and training our employees rely on every day."

BCTC has strengthened its workforce development efforts in recent years. The college recently received a $1.14 million federal grant to expand short-term workforce credential programs, making it the only Kentucky recipient of that U.S. Department of Education funding.
