FRANKFORT, Ky. — Governor Andy Beshear provided sweeping updates on Team Kentucky initiatives during a regular update, highlighting continued progress across economic development, medical cannabis access, school safety and law enforcement equipment investments, according to the Office of the Governor.

The Governor announced momentum in Kentucky's economic development efforts, with the state recording its best first quarter for investment in history in 2026, generating over $4.4 billion in approved investment. The initiatives included approval of 16 projects across 18 counties receiving $12.4 million in state funding to improve available industrial sites and support future job growth.

On medical cannabis, Beshear highlighted the state's expanding program, which recently expanded eligibility to include additional conditions such as severe arthritis, Crohn's disease, fibromyalgia and Parkinson's disease. The expansion makes medical cannabis potentially available to an additional 400,000 Kentuckians. The program, which commenced in January 2025, has already seen the opening of multiple cultivation facilities and dispensaries statewide.

School safety remained a priority in the update, with the Governor noting that the number of school resource officers protecting Kentucky's public schools continues to rise. Currently, 937 officers are deployed across campuses statewide, part of broader efforts to enhance campus security.

The Governor also highlighted investments in law enforcement capabilities, including equipment upgrades and training initiatives. The update noted that Kentucky State Police continues to expand its operational capabilities, including new water rescue equipment and resources.

The Team Kentucky updates are regular briefings during which the Governor announces state accomplishments, recognizes outstanding Kentuckians and provides progress reports on major initiatives spanning economic development, healthcare, education and public safety.
