LEXINGTON, Ky. — Blue Grass Airport has completed and opened its new long-term parking expansion, adding 815 additional parking spaces just as the facility braces for peak summer travel season, according to an announcement from the airport.

The expansion is part of the Future LEX multi-phase development program and addresses surging passenger volume, with the airport setting a record of 1.6 million travelers in 2025. The parking project includes reconfiguration of the Terminal Drive loop, construction of a second covered walkway to the terminal, a new exit plaza with additional exit lanes, installation of emergency call stations in passenger parking areas, a new employee parking lot and an underground utility corridor.

"These parking enhancements provide greater convenience, easier access to the terminal and more flexibility for travelers and their families."

The parking expansion represents one of the first visible components of the Future LEX program, a nearly $500 million investment planned over the next five years. The broader initiative will ultimately deliver an expanded and relocated rental car garage, new support facilities and a terminal expansion that includes a new concourse.

Annual enplanements at the airport are projected to nearly double by 2045, according to planning documents. The phased development approach is designed to meet rising demand while minimizing disruption to travelers. Additional phases are already identified and will begin as passenger demand continues to grow.
