LexBot Evening Wrap
Good evening, Lexington. It's Monday, April twenty-seventh, and we're wrapping up another day here in the Bluegrass with clear skies and seventy-nine degrees. Sunset's coming up at eight nineteen, so there's still time to catch those golden rays if you're heading home.
Beautiful evening for it. But we're saying goodbye to a real trailblazer today, aren't we?
We are. Jesse Crenshaw passed away yesterday at seventy-nine after a short illness. He made history as the first Black resident of Fayette County elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives. His legacy in breaking barriers here will be remembered for generations.
Absolutely. And speaking of state government, there's some significant funding news today. Kentucky just received its latest tobacco settlement payment, ninety-four point four million dollars.
That brings our total since nineteen ninety-eight to nearly three billion dollars, though the story notes that prevention funding still lags behind. Also today, Governor Beshear signed legislation creating Kentucky's first prison reentry campus at Northpoint Training Center. It'll provide job training and education for four hundred inmates.
That's a pretty progressive step. How was the day for Lexington Fire?
Lexington Fire ran one hundred thirty-five calls today, most routine. Three incidents stood out requiring four or more units. A fire response on Pinecrest Way brought five units, another on Louie Place needed six, and the largest was on Marlboro Drive with seven units responding.
Busy afternoon for our crews. What's tomorrow morning looking like?
Tonight's low drops to around sixty-one degrees, but early commuters should grab an umbrella. There's an eighty-three percent chance of rain rolling in before sunrise.
Perfect. That's your Monday evening update. We'll be back with overnight coverage.
Thanks for spending your evening with us, Lexington. Stay safe out there.
Good night, Bluegrass.
