SpringHaven is staying open, a reversal from an earlier announcement that it would close at the end of June due to financial strain.
Partner organization ZeroV stopped contracting with the domestic violence organization in Elizabethtown, the Lantern previously reported, which forced a closure announcement after 40 years of work in Kentucky’s Lincoln Trail District.
Now, a new partnership with Lexington-based Caritas Care Solutions has allowed SpringHaven to stay open and to expand, it announced Tuesday.

Caritas declined to comment on the partnership beyond a press release that stated that it ensures “frontline clinical care and emergency shelter resources remain robust, uninterrupted and deeply rooted in trauma-informed practices.”
“As shifting reimbursement models and inflation demand greater administrative and technological infrastructure, nonprofits must collaborate rather than duplicate to protect our vital safety nets,” J.L. Barrett, chairman of the Caritas Care Solutions Board of Directors, said in a statement. “By pooling our resources, infrastructure, and advocacy voices, we eliminate overhead costs to expand our geographic reach and guarantee uninterrupted, holistic behavioral wellness and shelter care for everyone we serve.”
A SpringHaven press release posted on social media said that it is expanding its shelter, advocacy and other services to “meet increasing community demand.”
SpringHaven gets funding from the state as well; a contract renewed July 1 shows the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet granted the organization nearly $214,000 for the next fiscal year. Last fiscal year, the state contract was for $148,525.00.
