LEXINGTON, Ky. — Fayette County Public Schools recognized top performers in its annual High Attendance Day competition on Wednesday, Sept. 9, as FCPS announced the 2026-27 winners across grade levels.

Glendover Elementary led all elementary schools with a 99.14% attendance rate, while Jessie Clark Middle School achieved 96.36% attendance among middle schools. Frederick Douglass High School topped the high school category with 95.01% attendance. SCAPA at Bluegrass, a mixed grade-level program, recorded 98.5% attendance, though that school was not part of the state competition.

Kentucky designated the event as a statewide initiative to underscore the importance of regular attendance to student achievement. According to FCPS, High Attendance Day serves as an annual reminder that consistent school participation builds habits essential for academic success and prepares students for future endeavors.

The competition encourages schools across Fayette County to mobilize staff, students and families around attendance goals. Research consistently shows that chronic absenteeism negatively affects student learning outcomes, graduation rates and long-term success. By spotlighting schools with exceptional attendance records, the district aims to reinforce positive behaviors and demonstrate the direct link between showing up and thriving academically.
