LOUISVILLE, Ky. — GE Appliances announced a $1 billion transformation of its Appliance Park headquarters on September 2, positioning the facility as the largest home appliance manufacturing site in the United States and bringing dryer production from Mexico back to Kentucky.

The investment, announced jointly with the IUE-CWA labor union, will modernize three buildings at the sprawling 750-acre complex and secure approximately 4,700 production jobs. The centerpiece is a more than $400 million investment to convert Building 5 from refrigeration manufacturing into a high-output dryer production facility, complementing the company's previous announcement of a $490 million investment in Building 2 for washer manufacturing and a $112 million modernization of Building 1 for equipment upgrades and redesigned laundry platforms.

"Bringing our laundry and dishwasher manufacturing together gives us a real competitive advantage, with new synergies across our cleaning products and closer connections between the people who design, engineer, and build them," said Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances, a subsidiary of Haier.

Refrigerator production will conclude at Building 5 in early 2027, with an approximately nine- to 12-month facility transformation to follow. New dryer production is scheduled to begin in late 2027. The company has committed to keeping employees on payroll throughout the transition with no layoffs associated with the retooling.

The announcement represents part of a broader reshoring trend among American manufacturers, who are bringing production back from overseas due to supply chain concerns, tariff policy and logistics costs. GE Appliances has committed $6.5 billion to U.S. manufacturing since 2016, including more than $3.5 billion already invested and another $3 billion announced in 2025 for future projects.

The company employs approximately 15,500 people nationwide, with operations supporting another 98,000 American jobs. Its Appliance Park facility manufactures products sold under the Monogram, Café, GE Profile, GE, Haier and Hotpoint brands, which appear in more than half of all U.S. homes.
