Trace Brooking, a junior at Glasgow High School in Glasgow Independent School District, has been selected as the new non-voting student member of the Kentucky Board of Education, according to Kentucky Teacher.

Brooking will serve a one-year term from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. The position represents an opportunity for a high school student to contribute to state education policy discussions and to amplify student voices in matters affecting Kentucky schools.

The Kentucky Board of Education has 15 members total, with the student member serving as one of four non-voting participants alongside a teacher representative, the president of the Council on Postsecondary Education, and the secretary of the Education and Labor Cabinet. The board develops and adopts regulations governing Kentucky's 171 public school districts.

The student member's primary role includes attending Kentucky Board of Education meetings, typically held over two successive days and covering topics ranging from academic performance standards to athletic oversight and superintendent misconduct matters.

Brooking joins a select group of students who have held this distinction. Harper Blake of Marion County High School previously served in the role, becoming the fifth student member in the board's history.
