Hume Bedford Pike to Close Oct. 15 for Cross Drain Replacement
LEXINGTON, Ky. — A section of Hume Bedford Pike (KY 1939) in Fayette County will be closed to traffic Thursday, Oct. 15, while crews replace a cross drain, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said in a traffic advisory issued Oct. 13.
The closure is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. between Russell Cave Road (KY 353) and Elizabeth Station Road/Greenwich Pike (KY 1876). The affected stretch runs between mile points 0.2 and 1.7.
A cross drain is a culvert that carries water under a roadway. Replacing one typically requires crews to shut down the road so they can dig, install new pipe and restore the surface safely.
Drivers who need to get through the area can use Russell Cave Road (KY 353), Elizabeth Station Road/Greenwich Pike (KY 1876) and U.S. 460 as alternate routes.
The cabinet said the schedule is tentative and could change because of weather, emergencies or other factors outside the control of the Department of Highways. Motorists can check live traffic conditions at GoKy.ky.gov before traveling.
The advisory was issued by KYTC District 7, which covers Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford counties.
