KDE's Thomas Clouse honored with 2026 Teresa Perry Compassion Award
The award recognizes a KDE employee who demonstrates integrity, commits to assisting others, delivers excellent customer service and shows compassion in their work. The award is named in honor of the late Teresa Perry, who served at KDE as executive secretary to the commissioner of education and worked tirelessly for the Commonwealth for more than 33 years.
Clouse expressed surprise at receiving the award. "I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside such amazing people during my time at KDE and I am grateful that they see me as approachable, supportive and car," he said in remarks to the board.
His nominators emphasized his commitment to KDE staff and educators, describing him as a "friend and champion of connection" who "leads with integrity, kindness and compassion." One nominator noted that educators in the field find him "approachable, professional and warm." Another praised his willingness to help colleagues navigate questions and expectations, saying he meets every request "with his thoughtfulness and commitment to helping."
Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher highlighted Clouse's impact on education in Kentucky. "His nominators showed how dedicated he is to moving education forward in Kentucky and always with such a positive attitude," Fletcher said. "Thomas is All In when it comes to his commitment to assisting others and providing excellent service."
