LEXINGTON, Ky. — Registration is now open for the third-annual Kentucky Reads to Succeed Summer Conference, which will bring together K-12 educators and administrators from across the state to learn about evidence-based literacy practices, according to Kentucky Teacher.

The conference will take place June 8-9 at the Galt House in Louisville and will be free for Kentucky's public school educators, though registration is required. The event is hosted by the Kentucky Department of Education's Division of Early Literacy.

The Kentucky Reading Academies have rapidly advanced literacy outcomes for early learners since the professional learning program began three years ago, according to a third-party evaluator. The report shows increases in student reading scores and educator knowledge in evidence-based literacy practices.

In 2022, the Kentucky General Assembly passed the Read to Succeed Act, which was designed to improve reading outcomes by improving how educators deliver early literacy instruction. The Read to Succeed Act prescribed a variety of interventions, including educator professional learning and coaching, the use of high-quality instructional materials in Kentucky's schools, and the realignment of teacher preparation materials according to evidence-based practices.

The early results from the Kentucky Reading Academies show the investments in early literacy are already paying off for students and educators. The conference will offer educators the chance to engage with the LETRS professional learning opportunity, which stands for Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling.
