Kentucky Opens Nominations for Special Education Teacher Honor
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Council for Exceptional Children and the Kentucky Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Early Learning announced that nominations are now open for the 2026 Kentucky Special Education Teacher of the Year. Nominations will close on June 30.
Eligible nominees must be full-time, certified public school special education teachers in Kentucky with at least five years of classroom experience. Any full-time, certified public school special education teacher meeting these requirements may be nominated by students, parents, colleagues, principals, superintendents or community members who wish to recognize an outstanding educator.
The Kentucky Council for Exceptional Children is a community of educators and partners dedicated to advancing the success of students with exceptionalities in Kentucky. The organization collaborates annually with the state education department to identify and honor exceptional special educators who demonstrate commitment to supporting students with disabilities.
Those interested in submitting a nomination must complete the 2026 Kentucky Special Education Teacher of the Year nomination form before the June 30 deadline. The recognition program provides an opportunity for communities statewide to celebrate special education professionals who go above and beyond in their work with exceptional learners.
