Kentucky state parks generate $1.1B economic impact, support 8,600 jobs
Kentucky state parks generate $1.1 billion in annual economic impact while supporting 8,600 jobs across the commonwealth, according to a new report released by Gov. Andy Beshear's office. The report highlights the growing importance of the state's outdoor recreation sector as a driver of tourism and economic development.
The findings underscore the critical role parks play in Kentucky's broader tourism success. In 2025, Kentucky's tourism industry set a record with $14.6 billion in economic impact and nearly 97,000 jobs supported, marking the fourth consecutive year of record-breaking growth for the sector.
State parks contribute significantly to this momentum. Outdoor recreation generates $5.9 billion annually for Kentucky tourism, reflecting growing visitor interest in nature-based activities and state park experiences.
The commonwealth has made substantial infrastructure investments to support continued growth. The General Assembly allocated $129 million to state park repairs and upgrades, with $15.6 million earmarked for power grid resilience at major resorts like Kentucky Dam Village. These improvements are aimed at enhancing visitor experiences and modernizing park facilities.
According to the Governor's office, state parks drive tourism, create jobs and support local economies across Kentucky. The parks offer diverse attractions ranging from hiking and camping to historic sites and water recreation opportunities at scenic locations throughout the state.
