LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky football notched one of the most significant victories in program history on Sept. 19, defeating No. 9 Texas A&M 31-21 on the road in Bryan-College Station, according to UK Athletics.

The win marked multiple milestones for coach Will Stein in his first season. It was his first road victory, first SEC win, first SEC road win and first victory over a ranked opponent. Stein became only the third first-year UK coach to defeat an AP Poll Top 10 opponent, joining John Ray (1969 vs. Ole Miss) and Joker Phillips (2009 vs. South Carolina). More notably, he became the first UK head coach to win a true road game against a Top 10 opponent in his inaugural season.

The victory stands as the second-highest-ranked road win in Kentucky history against an SEC opponent, trailing only the 2024 triumph over No. 6 Ole Miss. It marked the third Top 10 road win for the Wildcats in the last four seasons.

Quarterback Kenny Minchey completed 14 of 18 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns, finishing the game with 11 consecutive completions. Running back J. Baxter carried the offensive load with 19 rushes for 87 yards and two touchdowns, surpassing 1,000 career rushing yards in the process.

Wide receiver J. Miller caught five passes for 96 yards, including a 53-yard reception, while true freshman Kenny Darby made an impressive collegiate debut with two catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. Safety Jordan Castell led the defense with 13 total tackles, an interception and a pass breakup.

Kentucky, now 2-1 overall and 1-1 in SEC play, returns home to face South Alabama on Sept. 26 at 12:45 p.m. on the SEC Network. Texas A&M falls to 2-1 and 0-1 in conference play.
