Kentucky Tourism Sets Record Fourth Straight Year with Billions in Economic Impact
Kentucky's tourism industry generated record economic impact for the fourth consecutive year, with $14.6 billion in economic impact supporting 96,993 jobs, state officials announced.
The latest figures represent continued growth in Kentucky's tourism sector, building on the 2024 record of $14.3 billion and 97,394 jobs. The industry has maintained its momentum through consistent state investments and development initiatives under the New Kentucky Home strategic initiative.
An estimated 80 million travelers visited the state during 2024, spending $10.1 billion on attractions, dining, lodging and transportation across Kentucky's regions. The economic benefits extend broadly, with Lexington-Fayette County recording $1.7 billion in impact and 11,851 jobs, while Louisville generated $4.4 billion in economic impact supporting 28,460 jobs.
To sustain growth, the commonwealth has approved significant new tourism development projects. Five projects receiving final approval in 2025 are expected to generate $118 million in investment and create 298 jobs, including a Hyatt Regency in Lexington and theme park developments across the state. Additionally, four projects with preliminary approval are expected to generate $97.1 million and create approximately 196 jobs.
Since the beginning of the administration, 37 tourism development projects totaling an estimated investment of $1.1 billion have received final approval. The state has also invested in regional marketing, with tourism organizations in 80 Kentucky counties receiving funding to promote local attractions.
