Kentucky State Police Post 12 announced it will conduct periodic traffic safety checkpoints at approved locations throughout central Kentucky, according to a statement released June 1. The checkpoints will cover Anderson, Fayette, Franklin, Scott, Shelby, Spencer and Woodford counties.

The agency said the checkpoints are part of ongoing efforts to promote highway safety and enforce Kentucky traffic laws. Troopers will focus on operator impairment, vehicle equipment deficiencies, and valid driver licensing during the operations. Registration, insurance compliance, and other public safety violations also will be addressed as they arise.

"The Kentucky State Police strives daily to ensure the safety of the motoring public," the announcement stated. Proactive measures include roadside safety checkpoints and increased patrol in known problematic areas throughout the district.

The checkpoints are conducted in accordance with Kentucky State Police Policy and Procedures Manual.
