The Kentucky State Police Post 12 announced it will conduct periodic traffic safety checkpoints at approved locations throughout its seven-county jurisdiction, according to a statement released by the agency. The checkpoints will cover Anderson, Fayette, Franklin, Scott, Shelby, Spencer and Woodford counties.

The enforcement operations will focus on detecting operator impairment, verifying valid driver licenses, and confirming proper vehicle registration and insurance compliance. Troopers will also address any other violations of law or public safety issues that arise during traffic stops, according to the announcement.

The Kentucky State Police utilizes these checkpoints as a high-visibility public safety measure to deter violations of laws contained in the Kentucky Revised Statutes. A complete list of approved checkpoint locations is available on the Kentucky State Police website.

Motorists should have their operator's license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance readily available when approaching a checkpoint. Those without violations of law and minimal traffic congestion can expect only brief delays.

The agency said traffic safety checkpoints are part of broader efforts to promote highway safety across the region. Proactive measures include high-visibility checkpoints and increased patrol in known problematic areas throughout the Post 12 district.
