Lexington hosts eighth Clean Slate Expungement Clinic to remove criminal barriers
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lexington announced it would host its eighth Clean Slate Lexington Expungement Clinic, offering Fayette County residents the chance to remove criminal records that create barriers to employment, housing, education and voting.
The clinic took place from 1-4 p.m. at the Davis Park Workforce Center, 501 De Roode St. Registration for the clinic was full, but walk-ins were welcome and encouraged.
"Our expungement clinics have become an invaluable resource for our community, providing much-needed assistance and relief to hundreds of people," Mayor Linda Gorton said in a statement. "We started these clinics to help residents move beyond low-level, non-violent offenses, and take a step toward a better, brighter future."
Legal Aid of the Bluegrass coordinated expungement services at the clinic, while WORK-Lexington partners assisted residents with employment, employer connections, job searching, resumes and referrals.
Since launching the initiative in 2022, Lexington said more than 2,000 people have received expungement-related services through Clean Slate. The clinics offer residents the possibility of expunging qualifying misdemeanors and felonies from their criminal records.
Kentucky law allows expungement of many low-level, non-violent offenses, with most Class D felony convictions now eligible following legislative expansions in 2016 and 2019. Eligibility details were available at the event.
Beyond expungement services, the Davis Park Workforce Center offers career services year-round, including resume writing, interview preparation, and computer access for job searches and virtual interviews. Information about future Clean Slate Lexington Expungement Clinics is available on the city's website.
