LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington Humane Society is preparing to host its annual Doggie Paddle fundraising event on September 12 at Southland Aquatic Center, calling it Lexington's largest pool party for dogs.

Since its debut in 2014, Doggie Paddle has grown into a beloved community tradition. The event drew nearly 700 dogs in 2025, and organizers expect higher attendance this year. All ticket proceeds support the Lexington Humane Society's animal welfare programs.

"Whether your pup is a seasoned swimmer or prefers to keep their paws on dry land, there's something for everyone," said Meghan Hawkins, Director of Development for LHS. "We hope the community will come out, join us, and make this year's Doggie Paddle our best one yet."

The event will proceed rain or shine, though standard pool rules will be enforced during lightning or thunderstorms. Dogs of all swimming abilities are welcome to participate.

This year's Doggie Paddle is supported by a slate of sponsors including MetLife Pet Insurance, PetSuites, Bluegrass Sotheby's International Realty, Bone Dry Roofing, The Dog Stop, Forcht Bank, and others. Community members can register online at the Lexington Humane Society's event page.

Founded in 1889, the Lexington Humane Society operates as the largest pet adoption agency in Central Kentucky. The nonprofit also provides education on responsible pet care, advocates for animal welfare, and offers spay and neuter services for qualifying families at reduced costs. The organization relies entirely on private donations, grants, and community support to fund its operations.
