Lexington offers free trash disposal day Saturday
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The city is hosting a free trash disposal day for Fayette County residents this Saturday, Oct. 10, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bluegrass Regional Transfer Station, 1505 Old Frankfort Pike.
Residents can dispose of up to one pickup truck load of non-hazardous household waste at no cost. Items typically accepted through the city's curbside trash collection program will be accepted without charge, including appliances, furniture, mattresses and other residential refuse. Residents may arrive in a personal vehicle such as a car or SUV if they lack access to a pickup truck.
The free disposal applies to residential waste only. Construction and demolition debris, as well as yard waste, will be accepted at the facility's regular gate rate during the event and do not qualify for free disposal.
The city will not accept household hazardous waste during the disposal day. Residents seeking to dispose of items such as paint, batteries, chemicals, electronics and other hazardous materials should visit lexingtonky.gov/hhw for year-round disposal options.
The free disposal day is part of the city's effort to provide affordable waste management options for residents and reduce illegal dumping. Fayette County residents are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to responsibly dispose of household items that may not fit in regular trash bins or curbside pickup containers.
