
Lexington teen charged in Douglass Park shooting
LEXINGTON, Ky. — A 17-year-old female has been charged with first-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment following a shooting Sunday evening at Douglass Park.
The shooting occurred around 9:50 p.m. on July 5 when Lexington Police officers responded to the park and discovered a female victim with gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but is now in stable condition, according to police.
Officers say the suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Using information gathered at the shooting location, detectives located the suspect's vehicle at a residence in the 1100 block of Oakwood Drive. After officers attempted to make contact, the suspect refused to leave the residence. Following an approximately three-hour standoff, she was taken into custody.

Douglass Park, located at 726 Georgetown Street, is one of Lexington's oldest recreational facilities and the city's first park for African American residents, established in 1916.
