Lextran returns to regular routes as winter weather eases
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lextran announced that all bus routes have returned to regular service, ending the deployment of its winter snow plan following recent weather challenges.
The transit authority activated its snow plan protocols, which modify routes and schedules to maintain service reliability during adverse winter conditions. Riders can find information about each route's regular schedule by visiting the Schedules and Fares section on Lextran's website, then clicking "Maps & Schedules" and the "Snow" tab.
The return to normal operations comes after Lexington invested $2.2 million in expanded snow removal equipment and personnel following a severe winter storm last January. The city has since stockpiled over 10,000 tons of salt and enhanced its snow removal capabilities with additional snowplows and coordination between key agencies including Lextran.
Spring weather patterns are gradually replacing winter conditions in Lexington, though forecasters note occasional rain and snow showers may still occur through early spring. Lextran operates 25 fixed routes serving the Lexington-Fayette area as the primary public transportation provider for the region.
