LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department has postponed planned mosquito spraying due to rain, rescheduling the treatment for next week amid a broader effort to address a sharp increase in resident complaints about the insects.

Spraying originally scheduled for Thursday, September 10, across ZIP codes 40502, 40503, 40515, and 40517 — including the Picadome, Hill & Dale, Wellington, Beaumont, Lansdowne, Southeastern Hills, and Lakewood neighborhoods — has been moved to Tuesday, September 15, between 3 and 6 a.m., according to an update from the health department.

The delay comes as part of a larger mosquito control initiative launched this week. Spraying already occurred as scheduled on Tuesday, September 8, in portions of ZIP codes 40511, 40508, and 40505, covering the Masterson, Griffin Gate, Meadowthorpe, Downtown, Meadows/Loudon, and Eastland neighborhoods. On Wednesday, September 9, crews treated portions of ZIP code 40509, including Hamburg, Woodhill, Andover, and Greenbrier.

The health department conducts additional spraying "only if wind speed is less than 10 mph, the temperature is greater than 55 degrees Fahrenheit, and there is no rain or dense fog," officials stated. The spray specifically targets adult mosquitoes present in the air during treatment.
