Council Meeting Recap
So, what just happened at yesterday's Planning Commission Zoning Committee meeting? They worked through four zoning amendment requests over two and a half hours, and it was a mixed bag. Two items got postponed, but they did approve zoning changes for LCD Acquisitions on Chair Avenue and Hayman Avenue, and Fox South got their amendment approved as well.
Wait, what's happening on Chair Avenue? That sounds familiar.
LCD Acquisitions wanted to change their zoning from Light Industrial and Wholesale Business to Corridor Node. The committee approved it unanimously, but with conditions. They need written explanations and approval for their transit and parking plans before moving forward.
And the two that got postponed?
Mount Laurel Lands Company wanted to rezone property at twenty-one thirty-seven Old Paris Road from residential to warehouse business. Mr. Wilson moved to postpone that one, with Commissioner Molly Davis seconding. Then Edward McGhee's request to rezone property on Tates Creek Road and Saron Drive from single-family residential to medium density residential also got postponed.
Why the postponements? Did they say?
The meeting notes don't get into the specifics of why those dragged, but there were multiple speakers on each item. Amy Clark also raised some interesting concerns during public comment about the ZOTA initiation process, suggesting it should be limited to the Planning Commission or legislative body.
Sounds like there's still work to be done on several of these.
Exactly. It's all part of the process. Thanks for staying engaged with what's happening in our city.
