Neighborhood of the Week: Ashland Park
Good Monday morning, Lexington! Time for our Neighborhood of the Week, and today we're strolling through Ashland Park.
What a perfect choice to start the week, Sarah. This neighborhood is like stepping into Lexington's blueprint for elegant living.
Absolutely, Mike. You'll find Ashland Park nestled between Richmond Road up north and Tates Creek Road to the south, stretching from East High Street over to Henry Clay Boulevard.
And speaking of Henry Clay, here's something fascinating. This entire neighborhood sits on what used to be the Great Compromiser's own estate grounds.
That's right! The famous politician's home, Ashland, is still right there in the heart of it all. You can actually tour The Henry Clay Estate today.
It's incredible to think about Clay walking these same tree-lined streets back in his day, though they looked quite different then.
The neighborhood as we know it really took shape around nineteen ten, and here's the cool part. It was designed by the famous Olmsted Brothers.
Those are the same landscape architects who worked on Central Park in New York. They knew how to create beautiful, livable spaces.
You can definitely see their influence when you drive through. The curved streets, the way homes sit naturally with the landscape, all those mature trees.
It's actually listed as a National Register Historic District now, which helps preserve that early twentieth-century character.
The whole area has this timeless feel. Wide front porches, sidewalks perfect for evening walks, neighbors who actually know each other.
And you're so close to everything. Downtown's just minutes away, but you feel like you're in your own peaceful enclave.
That's the magic of Ashland Park. Historic charm with modern convenience.
If you call Ashland Park home, we'd love to hear from you! Give us a wave in the chat and tell us what you love about your neighborhood.
