Saint Joseph Health to rebrand as CommonSpirit Health in July
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Saint Joseph Health hospitals, clinics and care sites throughout Kentucky will begin using the CommonSpirit Health name in July 2026, the health system announced this week. The name change will not affect patient care, physicians, nurses or services at any of the system's locations.
Seven Saint Joseph Health hospitals will adopt the CommonSpirit name while maintaining the "Saint Joseph" name that Kentucky communities have embraced for generations. The rebranded facilities will include CommonSpirit Saint Joseph Hospital – Lexington on Harrodsburg Road, CommonSpirit Saint Joseph Medical Center – East Lexington on Eagle Creek Drive, and CommonSpirit Saint Joseph Hospital – Bardstown, formerly known as Flaget Memorial Hospital.
"We are proud of our long-standing legacy of serving Kentuckians, with Saint Joseph Hospital as Lexington's first hospital, and our hospitals in London and Bardstown celebrating major milestones this year," said Matt Grimshaw, CommonSpirit Health's Market President for Kentucky.
By formally adopting the CommonSpirit name, Saint Joseph Health's 5,200 team members, including 1,440 nurses and 250 physicians across eight hospitals and 85 care sites, will visually align with their parent organization. The system also operates care sites around the state, including an outpatient care center and emergency department in Nicholasville.
Saint Joseph Health has been part of CommonSpirit Health since 2019. The CommonSpirit name was derived from a combination of the words "Common Good" and "Holy Spirit," reflecting the shared values of the hospitals and health systems that formed the organization.
CommonSpirit Health is one of the nation's largest nonprofit Catholic healthcare organizations, delivering more than 20 million patient encounters annually through more than 2,300 clinics, care sites and 138 hospital-based locations, in addition to home-based services and virtual care offerings across 24 states. Saint Joseph Hospital, founded in 1877 by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, was Lexington's first hospital.
