LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky VALOR has partnered with Sazerac Co. to launch a new workforce initiative aimed at connecting veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses with career opportunities in Kentucky's tourism and hospitality industry, according to reporting from the Lane Report.

The Industry Connections initiative will help military-connected workers understand how skills developed during military service translate into civilian careers. The partnership represents a significant step in Kentucky's ongoing effort to address workforce challenges while tapping into a pool of highly skilled candidates.

Kentucky VALOR, an initiative of the Kentucky Science & Technology Corporation, currently serves approximately 2,500 military-connected participants across the United States and overseas. The program has steadily expanded since its launch in July 2022, with 200 veteran placements achieved by March 2026.

The tourism and hospitality sector represents a natural fit for military talent. According to the Kentucky Department of Tourism's 2025 Economic Impact of Tourism report, tourism supported nearly 97,000 jobs and generated $14.6 billion in economic impact across the commonwealth in 2025. Military occupations develop experience in leadership, logistics, operations, planning, customer service and team management—skills directly applicable to hotel and lodging management, restaurants and food service, bourbon and experiential tourism, destination marketing and event operations.

"The service members and military spouses we work with bring leadership, adaptability and problem-solving skills that translate across industries," said Molly Bode, executive director of Kentucky VALOR. "Through this partnership with Sazerac, we're helping participants explore opportunities across Kentucky's tourism and visitor economy."

Sazerac, one of the world's largest distilled spirits companies, operates major facilities in Kentucky including Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort. The bourbon industry itself has become a significant economic driver. Kentucky's bourbon sector generates nearly $9 billion annually and supports more than 22,500 jobs, with distilleries and related attractions creating employment opportunities far beyond production into hospitality, retail, events and marketing.

Through Sazerac's sponsorship, participants will access Industry Connections resources covering industry trends, leading employers and career pathways. Participants will also network with employers and industry professionals as they explore potential careers. Kentucky VALOR plans to expand Industry Connections with resources focusing on additional Kentucky industries in the future.
