SOMERSET, Ky. — The Somerset-Pulaski Economic Development Authority has launched a search for its next president and CEO as the organization enters a new chapter following the announced transition of Chris Girdler, who has led the group since its formation in 2019.

Applications will be accepted through 4 p.m. ET on July 31, according to an announcement in the Lane Report. The SPEDA Board of Directors will conduct a comprehensive search process and review all applications before scheduling interviews, with a selection expected in fall 2026.

Girdler announced in August 2025 that he would step down from the role, saying he believed positions of this nature have a "shelf life" and the organization needed "new energy, new ideas and new people to carry the torch." During his tenure, SPEDA has helped drive significant economic development throughout Pulaski County and Somerset.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for an experienced economic development leader to build upon a strong foundation and help shape the future of Somerset-Pulaski County," said Brook Ping, chairman of the SPEDA Board of Directors. "Our community has established itself as one of Kentucky's most innovative and collaborative economic development success stories."

SPEDA was established through a unique partnership between the City of Somerset and Pulaski County Government. The organization has been instrumental in attracting major investment and job creation to the region, with accomplishments including over $500 million in new and existing business development and more than 1,000 new jobs created. Tourism spending reached a record $150.9 million in 2023.

The successful candidate will be responsible for advancing SPEDA's mission through business recruitment, existing industry support, strategic planning, partnership development, organizational leadership and community engagement. The position reports directly to the SPEDA Board of Directors, which includes Somerset Mayor Alan Keck and Pulaski County Judge-Executive Marshall Todd.
