Today in Lexington: Calendar Spotlight
Here's one on the calendar for Monday worth knowing about. Parks and Recreation is hosting Earth Day Cyanotype Nature Prints out at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary from one to three p.m.
Okay, I have to ask, what exactly is cyanotype? That's not a word I hear every day.
It's this really cool Victorian-era photography technique that creates these beautiful blue-toned prints using natural objects. So you'd lay leaves or flowers on special paper, expose it to sunlight, and get these stunning silhouettes.
That sounds amazing, and perfect for Earth Week. Is there a cost for this?
Nope, completely free. Just show up at Raven Run and they'll have everything you need to make your own nature-inspired art.
I love that they're combining environmental celebration with actual hands-on creativity.
It's one of those events where you learn something new and walk away with something beautiful you made yourself.
