Tech company GBS eyes Covington expansion with $6.8M investment
Global Business Solutions, a technology integrator founded in Covington three decades ago, is returning to its roots by planning to relocate its headquarters to the historic Wadsworth Electric Manufacturing building at 20 West 11th Street in Covington, according to an announcement from the Office of the Governor. The project marks a $6.8 million investment that would retain 57 highly skilled jobs.
The company purchased the 20 West 11th Street building to allow for potential expansion and growth, according to GBS leadership. The facility will enable the firm to expand its internship and co-op programs in partnership with Northern Kentucky University and Gateway Community & Technical College.
Currently based in Newport, the company had been exploring relocation opportunities since about 2021, considering properties in both Newport and across the region. Founder and President Gaby Batshoun emphasized the move represents "a return to the company's roots" while enabling future growth.
GBS was founded in 1995 as a small IT service provider and has grown into Greater Cincinnati's only fully integrated technology solutions provider. The company provides expertise across IT, audio/video, automation, physical security, structured cabling and AI consulting. It serves regional clients including the cities of Florence and Covington.
The City of Covington is offering the company a business incentive to support the relocation. The incentive includes a 1.25% reimbursement of payroll taxes per year over five years, contingent on the company generating at least $4 million per year in payroll. The base salary for new positions is estimated at $70,600, or $88,300 with benefits.
The Covington Board of Commissioners approved the business incentive, with the move representing a 3-to-1 investment ratio for the city. The Wadsworth Electric building represents a continuation of Covington's industrial heritage, having previously housed manufacturers and, more recently, Donna Salyers Fabulous Furs.
The relocation underscores Covington's attractiveness to established technology firms and aligns with broader economic development momentum across Northern Kentucky.
