This Day in Lexington
This day in Lexington, April twenty-second, finds our city in one of its most beautiful seasons. While the history books might be quiet today, late April in the Bluegrass is anything but silent.
Walk through any neighborhood right now and you'll see why Lexington earned its reputation as a garden city. The dogwoods are putting on their annual show, their white and pink blooms creating canopies over our tree-lined streets. Down in the Arboretum, the cherry trees are likely at their peak, while tulips and daffodils add splashes of color to front yards across town.
This is prime time for our famous horse farms too. The paddocks are their most vibrant green, and if you drive the scenic routes around Versailles Road or Old Frankfort Pike, you'll catch glimpses of mares and foals enjoying the mild weather. Temperatures this time of year typically hover in the comfortable seventies during the day, perfect for those outdoor activities that make spring in Kentucky so special.
Many folks are firing up their grills for the first time since fall, while others are getting their hands dirty in vegetable gardens, hoping to beat the last frost date that usually comes right around now.
That's your history for today.
