LEXINGTON, Ky. — Transylvania University welcomed approximately 290 new students to campus this week, marking one of the largest incoming classes in recent years for the downtown liberal arts institution.

The incoming Pioneers posted an average high school GPA of 3.96, with nearly one-fifth earning Premier Scholarships. The class also represents a notable increase in legacy enrollments, which rose to 37 students from 25 the previous year, indicating growing interest from families with Transylvania connections.

"This year's entering class represents an important milestone for Transylvania," said Erin Craig, senior vice president for enrollment management. "Not only are we welcoming one of our largest classes in recent years, but we are doing so with students whose academic achievement, leadership and accomplishments speak to the strength of our institution."

The incoming students, who hail from 12 states as far west as California and Washington, listed psychology, pre-med, pre-law and business administration as their primary academic interests. Orientation activities included longstanding traditions like an induction ceremony and class photo before classes begin.

Founded in 1780 and located in downtown Lexington, Transylvania is the oldest university west of the Allegheny Mountains. The institution, which enrolls approximately 1,000 students, has been expanding its reach to attract both Kentucky and out-of-state students seeking a personalized liberal arts education.

Craig noted that in an increasingly competitive enrollment environment, the incoming class affirms institutional values. "Families continue to value the distinctive, personalized education and real-world opportunities that define the Transylvania experience," she said.
