LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky tight end Willie Rodriguez has been named a nominee for the 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, joining 174 other student-athletes and coaches from across college football recognized for excellence in community service and leadership.

The selection recognizes Rodriguez, a junior management major from Taylor Mill, for his work serving children and families, particularly those dealing with disabilities. His commitment to service was shaped early by his experience caring for his younger sister, Gabby, 19, who has Rett syndrome, a rare neurological disorder affecting childhood development.

"From an early age, he embraced the responsibilities of helping care for Gabby, assisting with her daily needs while serving as one of her biggest advocates and supporters," the university said in announcing the nomination. Rodriguez has translated those experiences into community action, volunteering at Golisano Children's Hospital and Easterseals of the Bluegrass, a nonprofit supporting individuals and families with disabilities.

The two-year letterwinner has also organized a shoe drive for Camp Horsin' Around, a local nonprofit providing outdoor camp experiences for children with special needs, and has volunteered at his sister's high school, Scott High School, organizing activities with her classmates.

Rodriguez, a 6-foot-4 tight end, has emerged as a key target in new head coach Will Stein's offensive scheme. In 2025, his first full season as a starter, he recorded 23 receptions for 310 yards and one touchdown. The former four-star recruit announced his intention to return for the 2026 season in January, committing to a program undergoing significant changes in its offensive approach.

The American Football Coaches Association and Allstate will announce the 2026 Good Works Team in September, selecting 22 student-athletes and one honorary head coach from the 175 nominees. The field includes 113 FBS players, 49 student-athletes from lower divisions, and 13 head coaches. One honoree will be selected as team captain and receive the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy. The program was established in 1992 to recognize college football players who excel off the field in community service, academics and athletics.
