UK Shares Tips for Students to Maximize Spring Reading Days
LEXINGTON, Ky. — As the University of Kentucky's spring semester winds down, the institution is offering guidance to help students make the most of Reading Days, a designated study period ahead of final exams. The university's student news office released a collection of recommendations and resources aimed at helping students stay organized and prepared during the April 30-May 1 break.
Reading Days are intended to provide students with time and space to refocus, recover and complete studies successfully, according to the university. The period allows students to catch up on coursework and put forth final effort before final examinations begin.
The university recommends that students begin by examining their course syllabuses to understand expectations for each final examination, determining whether they have final papers, presentations or cumulative tests. The Office for Student Success offers resources including a 3:1 Support Plan to help students navigate these academic requirements.
Finding an appropriate study location is also important. UK Libraries provides various spaces suited to different study preferences, from quiet individual areas to group study rooms, allowing students to select environments that maximize their productivity.
University officials also emphasize the importance of self-care during the final stretch of the semester. Rather than relying on late-night snacking and all-nighters, students are encouraged to make healthier choices through UK Dining's nutritious meal options and to utilize Campus Recreation facilities for physical activity and stress relief. Adequate sleep is particularly critical during this period, according to the guidance.
The Office for Student Success operates as a centralized hub with 44 different units and programs designed to support student achievement. The office provides academic advising, tutoring services, coaching for study skills and time management, and connections to mental health resources.
Students can access the Spring 2026 final exam schedules through the Office of the University Registrar's website. For additional resources geared toward student success, the university directs students to studentsuccess.uky.edu.
