LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky Wind Symphony will present Corfu Festival, celebrating international collaboration and contemporary wind band music, at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 26, in the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall.

The performance will feature Sokratis Anthis, professor at Ionian University in Corfu, Greece, as guest conductor. Anthis's weeklong residency is part of an ongoing bilateral relationship between the UK School of Music and Ionian University, building on a growing artistic partnership between the institutions. The featured Yamaha Artist previously visited Lexington in Spring 2024, when he performed at Singletary and presented a trumpet master class for UK students.

Since 2023, Anthis has collaborated with Jason Dovel, UK associate professor of trumpet, as co-host of the Corfu Trumpet Festival, an international program that brings American and Greek students together for a week of performances, master classes and cultural exchange with the historic Mantzaros Philharmonic. UK students will return to Corfu this summer, with additional guest conducting by Cody Birdwell, Director of Bands.

The concert program brings together energetic staples of the wind band repertoire with works inspired directly by the Greek island. The program includes Overture to "Candide" by Leonard Bernstein, Percy Grainger's "Children's March: Over the Hills and Far Away," James M. Stephenson's Symphony No. 2 titled "Voices" and two pieces by Dovel: "Corfiot Sea Scenes" and "A Corfu Festival."
