Gov. Andy Beshear's administration has secured $73 million in federal transportation funding for three major Kentucky infrastructure projects, including replacement of Frankfort's historic Singing Bridge, improvements to rest areas statewide and expansion of the Paducah Riverport, according to an announcement from the Governor's Office.

The investment through a U.S. Department of Transportation program aims to connect communities, improve safety and reliability, and enhance economic development across the commonwealth. The funding represents a significant step in addressing critical infrastructure needs while supporting regional economic growth.

The Singing Bridge replacement in Frankfort secured $24 million in federal funding, a crucial element of the larger transportation package. The historic bridge was closed in August 2024 due to advanced structural deterioration, forcing residents and visitors to use alternative routes. The replacement project will provide safe multimodal access for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists while restoring a vital connection between downtown Frankfort and the south side of the Kentucky River.

The funding package also includes statewide improvements to rest areas, addressing maintenance and expansion needs at interstate rest stops throughout Kentucky. The Paducah Riverport expansion complements the region's growing maritime transportation industry, supporting continued economic development in Western Kentucky.

The investment builds on Gov. Beshear's broader transportation agenda, which has prioritized major infrastructure improvements across the state during his administration.
