Bluegrass Greensource offers tips for fall outdoor fun
LEXINGTON, Ky. — As autumn arrives in Central Kentucky, Bluegrass Greensource is encouraging residents to take advantage of the season's ideal conditions for outdoor activities.
The nonprofit environmental organization, which has provided environmental education and resources to the region since 2001, suggests that fall is an especially appealing time to experience Central Kentucky's natural beauty, when cooler temperatures and changing foliage create picturesque conditions for outdoor recreation.
Fall visitors and residents can explore Raven Run Nature Sanctuary, which features over 10 miles of trails winding through wooded areas and streams, or take a scenic hike at the iconic Red River Gorge. For those seeking lower-intensity outings, McConnell Springs Park offers easy walking trails through lush greenery and natural springs.
Agritourism also flourishes during autumn in Lexington. Visitors can pick their own produce and explore corn mazes at Eckert's Boyd Orchard, and Reed Valley Orchard offers both fruit picking and scenic hiking trails.
The University of Kentucky Arboretum attracts an annual rate of around 200,000 visitors who enjoy its gardens and walking paths. The Lexington Cemetery, nationally recognized for its arboretum and gardens, offers another scenic option for autumn strolls.
Horseback riding enthusiasts can experience the rolling hills and wooded areas at the Kentucky Horse Park, which offers guided trail rides that allow visitors to experience the park's scenic trails during fall's cooler temperatures and brilliant foliage.
