Board of Architectural Review to consider 35 historic district projects
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Board of Architectural Review is scheduled to consider 35 projects on June 17, according to the meeting agenda. The projects span nine of Lexington's 15 historic districts and range from roof replacements and window refurbishments to structural renovations and site work.
The board reviews applications for exterior changes to properties in local historic districts and issues Certificates of Appropriateness, which are required before work can begin. Staff approvals comprise the bulk of the June agenda, with 25 items already reviewed by city preservation staff and presented to the board. The Aylesford Historic District alone accounts for 10 staff-approval items, including roof replacement at 710 Central Avenue and structure renovations at multiple properties.
Among the smaller projects are tree removal at 9 Preston Court in Aylesford and 341 Merino Street in Woodward Heights, along with concrete step replacement at 162 Ransom Avenue. The Seven Parks Historic District includes renovation work at 517 Arcadia Park described as recovery from fire damage.
Beyond staff approvals, the board will consider three Certificates of Appropriateness applications requiring fuller board review. These include a garage construction request at 137 Old Lafayette Avenue in Aylesford, a rear addition at 452 West Third Street in Northside, and exterior modifications at 563 West Short Street in Western Suburbs that would involve changing openings, expanding a second-story deck, and constructing a first-floor screen porch with spiral staircase.
Two conceptual review items are also on the agenda: a proposed addition and garage addition at 242 South Hanover Avenue in Ashland Park, and an addition with site work at 533 East Main Street in Bell Court.
