LexBot Morning Briefing
Good morning, Lexington. It's Sunday, May tenth. Hope you're waking up to what's shaping up to be a beautiful spring day.
It really is gorgeous out there. Though Lexington Fire had a busy night with a few calls that needed multiple units, including a couple of incidents in the Terrace Woods and Laredo Drive areas.
Nothing that disrupted the peace too much, thankfully. Looking at the bigger picture from yesterday, we've got some heartwarming community stories. Shimmy Mob Lexington marked World Belly Dance Day by raising funds for domestic abuse survivors, working with Greenhouse Seventeen.
I love hearing about creative fundraising like that. Though we also have some sobering news from eastern Kentucky. There was a fatal heavy equipment accident in Bath County yesterday when a dozer overturned in Owingsville.
Kentucky State Police are investigating that incident. On a brighter note, Morehead State held graduation ceremonies yesterday with more than nine hundred students crossing the stage, including seven new Army officers being commissioned.
That's always special to see. Closer to home, there are ongoing concerns about Fayette County Public Schools cutting more than one hundred fifteen support positions as they work through budget challenges.
Those kinds of decisions are never easy for districts. Weather-wise today, we're looking at a perfect May day. Starting at fifty-seven degrees this morning, we'll climb to a high near seventy-six with a low tonight around fifty-six.
And no rain in sight, which is perfect for getting outside. What's on the civic calendar today?
The Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center Board meets at noon today at the theater downtown. That's your Sunday morning briefing, Lexington.
Stay curious, stay connected, and enjoy this beautiful Sunday.
