LEXINGTON, Ky. — Bluegrass Community and Technical College announced today a landmark $2 million commitment from the James A. and Martha R. Brown Charitable Foundation, marking the largest single philanthropic gift in the college's history.

The foundation was established in 2018 to empower organizations and institutions that promote and provide cultural, educational and civic improvement opportunities for the enhancement of community well-being. Based in Lexington, the foundation holds assets totaling $36.5 million and is the legacy of Jim and Martha Brown, who were prominent business leaders and philanthropists and native Kentuckians.

Bluegrass Community and Technical College is one of 16 two-year, open-admission colleges of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, serving over 18,000 students. The college's foundation works with donors to connect their giving to priorities that include providing scholarships to deserving students, maintaining academic excellence through faculty development, and supporting instructional equipment and supplies.

The foundation's support for BCTC aligns with its broader commitment to advancing education across Kentucky. Jim Brown was the fourth licensed emergency medical technician in Kentucky, served as Mayor of Cynthiana, and was a prolific business owner. The Brown family's philanthropic legacy has positioned the foundation as a significant force in supporting educational institutions throughout the region.
