Council set to consider fire truck, police academy deals Tuesday
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council is scheduled to discuss more than a dozen new business items during a work session Tuesday, including authorizations for a new fire apparatus and a partnership with the University of Kentucky for a police training academy relocation.
According to the council's May 12 work session agenda, the body will consider authorization to purchase a custom Pierce Enforcer Pumper fire truck from Atlantic Emergency Solutions, Inc. for $1,343,000. The funds are already budgeted.
The council also would authorize a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Kentucky for a new Police Training Academy project at Coldstream Research Campus at a cost of $928,242. The proposed facility would be built on a 4.17-acre vacant land tract at 1785 McGrathiana Parkway, with funds already budgeted.
Additional agenda items include authorization to execute an agreement with Downtown Lexington Partnership to provide services for Central Bank Thursday Night Live, the Luminate Lexington Holiday Concert and Tree Lighting, and the Christmas parade from November 1, 2025, through October 31, 2026, with no budgetary impact.
The council is also set to consider a $150,000 art project grant with Gatton Park on the Town Branch, featuring public artwork by Blessing Hancock to be installed on the park's passageway and retain LFUCG property. The council would also discuss authorizations related to cable TV services at the new Senior & Therapeutic Recreation Center at Shillito Park Road, an amendment to allow Lexington Children's Museum directors to serve three consecutive terms, and the repeal of the Opioid Abatement Commission's ordinance following the completion of its recommendations.
The work session is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 200 E. Main Street. Work sessions typically involve discussion of agenda items, with final votes usually deferred to the Thursday council meeting.
