LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Social Services & Public Safety Committee is scheduled to consider several significant policy matters at its meeting Tuesday, according to the committee's agenda.

The committee will review a proposed drag racing ordinance that would address street racing activity in Lexington. The proposal appears to follow a model adopted in Louisville, where city officials have authority to impound vehicles used in street racing and impose fines on violators.

The agenda also includes discussion of expanding a senior care initiative called A Caring Place, a nonprofit that coordinates a "village" model of community service for older residents. According to the proposal, the initiative would connect volunteers, churches, neighborhood associations and others to provide services for seniors, including wellness check-ins, meal delivery, help with government assistance programs and home visits. The organization, founded in 2017, currently works with approximately 100 participants supported by 150 volunteers.

Additionally, the committee will consider an Equitable Enforcement proposal related to code enforcement practices, hear an update on the Division of Youth Services, and review items referred to the committee.

The Social Services & Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, August 11 at 1 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 200 E. Main St. The meeting is open to the public.
