LEXINGTON, Ky. — Fayette County Public Schools is congratulating dozens of high school students who have been selected for three statewide summer programs designed to develop Kentucky's next generation of leaders, according to an announcement from the district.

The students earned spots in the 2026 Governor's Scholars Program, Governor's School for the Arts, and Governor's School for Entrepreneurs. The competitive programs provide free, intensive summer experiences on college campuses across Kentucky.

The Governor's Scholars Program, established in 1983, combines coursework in sciences, mathematics, social sciences, humanities, and the arts with seminars, community service projects, and residential experiences. The program seeks to retain Kentucky's top students by demonstrating "the potential of their talents at home," according to program literature.

The Governor's School for the Arts, a program of Kentucky Performing Arts, immerses talented students in master classes and creative projects led by professional artists. Meanwhile, the Governor's School for Entrepreneurs offers prospective business leaders hands-on experience through startup visits, business model development, prototype design, and pitches to judges on Demo Day.

Selection for these programs is highly competitive, requiring students to demonstrate academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and community engagement. Students who participate are eligible for scholarships to Kentucky colleges and universities upon completion. FCPS students who complete the programs are recognized for their exceptional dedication and talent.
