LEXINGTON, Ky. — Fayette County Public Schools is urging families to finalize their back-to-school preparations ahead of the 2026-27 school year, offering a comprehensive online resource guide to help parents navigate the transition.

The district has compiled the "'26 Back to School Basics" webpage, which features a family to-do list, frequently asked questions, and quick links to districtwide resources. Students are scheduled to begin classes on August 12, with a few exceptions: William Wells Brown Elementary, a Promise Academy school, will start on July 29.

The district is implementing new policies this school year, including an electronics-free school day for high school students, extending a program already in place for elementary and middle school students. Additionally, Maeve Irvin will take over as principal of Oak Grove Elementary, marking one of the leadership changes in the district. Irvin, who is entering her 26th year in education with 21 years of experience in Fayette County, previously served as assistant principal at Huddleston Elementary.

Registration for the 2026-27 school year opened on February 2, 2026. The district emphasizes that early registration helps schools plan classroom space, staffing, and instructional resources, while also allowing families to avoid lengthy summer enrollment lines.
