LEXINGTON, Ky. — Fayette County Public Schools has approved a corrective action plan aimed at strengthening the district's financial operations, complete with a public dashboard that allows community members to monitor progress, the school district announced.

The Budget Processes & Expenditures Corrective Action Plan, approved by the Fayette County Board of Education on Sept. 21, represents a comprehensive response to longstanding fiscal challenges identified during a third-party audit commissioned by the board last fall. The interactive CAP dashboard enables residents to track the district's implementation of recommended reforms in real time.

"The action steps will strengthen our financial protocols and continue to streamline our internal controls," Board Chair Tyler Murphy said in a statement. "We are committed to solutions, results, and moving FCPS forward – building on strong academic successes."

Interim Superintendent Bill Bradford emphasized that financial recovery remains a top priority for the district's leadership. "The board's leadership and clear directives ensure our district remains focused on providing a stable and supportive environment where every student can thrive," Bradford said. "We will continue providing regular updates during the financial report at board meetings and through the CAP dashboard as our work progresses."

Some corrective measures have already been completed, while others require sustained effort and additional resources, according to district officials. The board and superintendent have committed to regular updates on financial recovery during monthly board meetings and through the public dashboard.

The corrective action plan addresses what the district described as systemic weaknesses in fiscal operations, internal controls, and financial protocols. The third-party audit that prompted the plan came as the district faced scrutiny over budget management practices, marking a significant moment for transparency and accountability in Kentucky's second-largest school system by enrollment.
