LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Fayette County Public Schools Fine Arts Department will present "Seussical" as its third annual summer musical production, bringing together nearly 80 high school students from across the district for an intensive three-week rehearsal period.

The musical, with music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, is based on the beloved works of Dr. Seuss. The show draws most of its plot from "Horton Hears a Who!," "Gertrude McFuzz," and "Horton Hatches the Egg," weaving together a story of friendship, loyalty, and love featuring characters like The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz and a gaggle of other Seussian figures.

The districtwide production will run June 26 through June 28 at Frederick Douglass High School, located at 2000 Winchester Road. Performances are scheduled for Friday, June 26 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, June 27 at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, June 28 at 3 p.m.

Admission is $10 for students and $15 for adults. Tickets can be purchased online through the FCPS Fine Arts ticketing system.

This marks the third installment of the district's summer musical initiative. The Fine Arts Department previously produced "Hairspray" in 2024 and "Mamma Mia!" in 2025, each drawing large numbers of high school performers from throughout the district. The productions enable students to collaborate with arts-minded peers from other schools while gaining intensive performance experience over a condensed rehearsal schedule.
